IBM goes Linux - IBM goes Linux

IBM once again leads the way for in the PC industry as it refocuses it corporate wide Internet software efforts around Linux. IBM hope that it will open the door for other large corporation to follow suite.

"In an interview Monday, Palmisano said that the open standards of Linux represent the same opportunity the Internet did". "We've been thinking about this for a while," he said. "Linux is an evolving, high-growth [market] and we wanted to get there quickly in the early adoption phase".

In an effort promote the use of open source code, IBM voiced their commitment to working with the open source community to develop and promote standards and make certain the technology is available. As part of this commitment they will "Linux-enable" all of its hardware platforms as well as port applications and middleware to Linux.
