When I sat down to write this review, I have to admit in the beginning I was somewhat miffed about exactly what criteria I should use. Benchmarks, package contents, compatibility--none of these seemed to really fit here.
For the first time, I was writing a review where a large part of the testing would be based on SUBJECTIVE criteria.
So, before we get to the touchy-feely part of the review, let me give you the facts. The Ratpad is huge--11 1/2 inches long, and 9 1/2 inches wide (the edges are tapered). The material it is made from seems to be some sort of a hard, durable PVC-type plastic. The surface of the Ratpad is textured, both front and back. It is somewhat similar to what you would find in your shower on the non-slip peel-offs. The color as you can tell from the picture is black. The surface, unlike most other mouse pads is also very easy to clean, simply spray on some Windex and wipe it off, walla good as new. The back of the Ratpad features small clear plastic feet, including one in the middle--a place which most other mousepads neglect.
