"...it is not always easy to install software on public machines. Some public account are very limited in the sense that they may have a small amount of disk space allocated to them or the sysadmin may have limited user access to the hard drive and other resources. Virtual Network Computing from AT&T Research Labs remove all these constraints by implementing their remote viewer in a Java applet. Java applets can be run by any system which has a Java enabled browser and has access to the Internet. VNC is multi-platform, easy to install and there is a compression enabled implementation for it for people with slow connection. I have it setup on both my Windows and Linux box, allowing me to use both when I need to."
