Bluetooth technology is based on short-range radio technology. Bluetooth is a cheap alternative to such other wireless technology as IEEE 802.11b, which is actually quite expensive. Unfortunately however, Bluetooth is a lot slower then 802.11b and its range is also shortened which makes it more appropriate for people on the move and/or who like to have the ability to link up to another computer copy over a few small files and pack up and leave. Bluetooth is the perfect solution for laptop networking.
