But how is the quality of the monitor? With the naked eye, the text quality looks sharp and beautiful. Image quality is superb with rich and vibrant colours. The video quality is also very good thanks to a fast refresh rate and response time. Still, to test the monitor further, I subjected it to 4 different monitor testing programs. While the 171MP passed every single test with flying colours, it failed the smearing/streaking test which consisted of a colour box moving quickly across the screen from edge to edge. According to the test, the box should have appeared sharp, but it was blurry and the colours seemed to smear out. I guessed this is due to the fact the the 171MP is an LCD and not a CRT. So, I ran the same test on the 181T and same smearing appeared. Then, I ran the test on the Samsung 990NF CRT and Sony G200 CRT monitors, but I did not see the smearing apparent on the LCD monitors. I concluded that the smearing is due to the fact that LCD monitors cannot refresh the screen as fast as CRT monitors.
