"Wireless networking is becoming stronger every day. 802.11's list of revisions is getting bigger at a fast rate. First came 802.11, which transferred at 1 or 2 Mbps. Then came 802.11a, which could have a throughput of up to 54 Mbps. 802.11a's throughput is very attractive, but it just can't pull the range of its successor, being 802.11b. 802.11b is the third revision to 802.11, and is the most commonly used standard to date. It can only transfer at 11 Mbps, but has a much greater range than any of its predecessors. Today, I'm going to take a look at Compex's Net-Passage 16 (NP-16), which incorporates 802.11b. The NP-16 has a built-in 4-port switch, and has the option of being a wireless access point via a PCMCIA slot on the top of the unit. Compex now sells the unit bundled with the WL11A PCMCIA card, which runs around $150 street price. I find this to be a fair price based on everything this unit says it can do. Lets see if it will prove to be a worthy product of your home
or office."
