The boys at DDR Zone show us how to mod our fans to make them a bit quieter...
This will work, but I doubt the more hardcore ppl will want to do this.
In the quest for a higher 3DMark score or FSB, many tweakers and enthusiasts
add copious amounts of fans to their system (at last count I had 11). Sure they
keep your system ultra-cool and look ultra-cool, but the sound they make definitely
is not ultra-cool. Some people rig up switch-buses to turn their fans on/off,
some rig up (or purchase for ridiculous sums) rheobuses to turn the fans down
to an acceptable level. However most people simply do not have the time, the
skills required, or the money to undertake any of the projects mentioned above.
The main way to "silence" a fan is to decrease the level of voltage
powering the fan (this is what a rheobus does). However rheobuses and other
voltage control devices can be both expensive and complicated to construct.
By far the cheapest way to do so is the 7v trick (or mod).
