"For the past several years, SiS (Silicon Integrated Systems) has been producing budget chipsets for the low end market. Over a year ago SiS licensed the rights to produce P4 chipsets. After the successful 645 and the newer 645DX which supports the 533 FSB, SiS is ready to launch a new chipset, the SiS 648. SiS is aiming to go mainstream and be a market leader. To do this their goal is to bring features top market before their competitors. With the SiS 648, SiS is a few steps ahead of their counterparts in releasing and shipping an AGP 8x chipset. The 648 north bridge is basically an updated 645DX with support for AGP 8x, but paired with it is the all new 963 southbridge. The 963 integrates a wide array of new features including an USB 2.0 controller supporting 6 ports, a three port Firewire (1394) controller, and an Ethernet controller. In addition, it has support for dual ATA 133 channels, which is a given in a new chipset."
