"The first step that I've decided to take is designing the look of the forums. By laying out the look of the page, I can easily find out what variables are needed, what fields are needed for the database, etc. It also gives me a chance to explore what kinds of things I want the forum to do.
This step doesn't involve any real coding. It's really just doodling. I didn't have to have a computer around (unless you want to draw it in PhotoShop or Flash or something), so I just started drawing when I was bored. Here's a computer transcription of my really bad, but comprehensive drawing of the front page, which is the forum list."
