The main reason you would want to get rid of 'Ghosts' is due to the fact that malicious programs like trojans pose a very real security threat to a lot of computers both personal and business alike. To block a trojan from "calling home" you need a Firewall, but if the Trojan is run on the computer (usually by Malicious Email) then it can usually find a way through the firewall from the inside.
