"Perhaps the most exciting new thing to hit the computer world, other than the new Pentium chipset, are these new "electroluminescent" keyboards. Electroluminescent keyboards convert electrical energy into light energy that you can see, and they do so very efficiently. The military (as with many interesting things) developed this technology originally, for the same reasons that you would like to use it. It is difficult to work at console in the dark: so why not make the keyboard glow? I am sure a lot of money was spent, and some time later we had electroluminescent abilities. Granted that the technology is rather new it is still quite costly, however; Bytecc carries Zippy brand keyboards and they are aimed at a demographic who likes glowing keyboards, but doesn't want to sell their car to buy an Eluminix model (many people)."
