Rumors have surfaced that populating all memory slots on Intel's new Canterwood chipset will automatically disable Performance Acceleration Technology used by Intel to distinguish the i875P chipset from the lower-end i865 versions with the benefit of greatly reduced memory access latencies. To clear the situation, at least as far as the actual capabilities of the chipset itself are concerned, we have analyzed the Canterwood access latencies in some greater detail and compared them to a best-case scenario Springdale setup.
Keep in mind that the theoretical capabilities of any chipset sometimes differ from what the one or the other manufacturer implements, hence, our data cannot exclude the one or other foul-up in production boards.
