5 Megapixel cameras enters the enthusiast camera territory. Most of the 5MP models are designed for photographers who wants most of the controls and features found in a digital SLR but is not quite ready to take the big step of going all the way. You don't really need this many pixels to print out good 8x10s. However, for those time when you're printing images larger than 8x10, or if you want to crop your photos a bit, the extra resolution will come in handy.
