Digitimes reports that Advanced Micro Devices has made the transition to 65nm process technology, beginning with the immediate availability of its AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual-core desktop processors.
"AMD manufactures the new CPUs on 65nm silicon-on-insulator (SOI) technology, which has evolved from a technology agreement with IBM. AMD expects to be fully converted to 65nm production at the company's Fab 36 in Dresden (Germany) by mid-2007.
Pricing for the new 65nm AMD Athlon 64 dual-core processors with model numbers 5000+, 4800+, 4400+ and 4000+ are US$301, US$271, US$214 and US$169, respectively, for 1,000-unit amounts shipped using the company's PIB (processor in a box) package, said AMD."
