Digitimes report an interesting war between ATI and Nvidial for ULi... "ATI Technologies is expected to or has already step up its own development and production of southbridge chips after Nvidia announced on February 21 that it completed the acquisition of Taiwan-based ULi Electronics, according to sources at Taiwan motherboard makers.
ATI had also tried to acquire ULi, but the deal fell through as the two companies differed on the price, paving the way for Nvidia to take up ULi, the sources said, noting that ULi started volume production of its latest southbridge chip, the ULi M1575, in the second half of last year. ATI had bundled most of its northbridge chips with ULi’s southbridge chips.
Following completion of the acquisition, Nvidia will discontinue marketing ULi-branded products and instead will market them under the Nvidia name."
