When looking at these consoles from the perspective of pure processor power, the PS3 looks like the victor. The PS3 also dominates in the area of backwards compatibility, and its ability to read the next generation of Blue-ray discs. But as we’ve seen in the past, it’s not the power of the system that determines its success. Microsoft’s XBOX is arguably more powerful than the PS2, yet Sony controls the most market share of the console industry mainly due to its backwards compatibility, game selection, and reputation from the PS1. Sony will be going into this next generation of gaming with a very strong product, yet competition from the 360 could be an issue seeing as how Microsoft’s own is likely to be released at least four months prior to the PS3. The competition, as they say, is really heating up.
