IDF August 2005 :: Day 2  - IDF August 2005 :: Day 2
Thu, August 25 2005 | 2:22PM | PermaLink Feedback?
We spent some time talking to Microsoft about Media Centre and X360. Whilst there is some good news, there is some even better news if you are planning to upgrade to VISTA.

VIA seem to be re-focusing themselves on the market and attacking it from a different angle, meaning who seriously would want to be in the middle of NVIDIA and ATI at the moment? Meaning 2 is better than one - but sandwiched in there - no way!

Within the digital home Intel still state that a wired 'hard' backbone is important. Whilst using the powerlines within the home is not a new idea, the Homeplug alliance is taking it to the next level.

While at IDF you hear a lot about the future technologies as the current 'new' technologies have just been deployed. Wireless connectivity is no different, while we are hearing a lot about WiMAX and other technologies, Intel have updated us on the plans for 802.11n.

The Universal 3-D Project has been formed for several years and has the aim to bring 3-D images to mainstream applications. This will work by creating and deploying a single format which allows the applications to share the 3D data.

With all of the enhancements in systems today it is a suprise that we still have to use the DOS styled BIOS to configure and give our systems the performance edge. Intel are driving towards having a better BIOS, with full support for this within the next Windows Operating system - Vista.
