"The laser is focussed on to liquid crystal array (a pixel array is just like a TFT but with pixel sizes of around 8 microns x 8 microns). A "hologram" is then placed on the display, hologram in this case refers to the phase patter placed on the liquid crystal. Below is a close up with the laser incident on the panel itself. "
