Digitimes reports that i865 is on death's bed... "Intel will fill out its Bearlake series in the third quarter by introducing the entry-level G31, which will have a 1066MHz FSB and support the Wolfdale processor, market sources indicated.

Other Bearlake chipsets set to be launched in between are the X38, Q35/33 and G33 parts, with the high-end X38 chipset being priced at US$50 while the low-end G31 will be priced at US$30, the Taiwan mobo makers pointed out.

The shipment proportion of Bearlake series chipsets will begin to rise in the second half of 2007 and by 2008, the proportion will exceed 40%, predicted the sources.

In related news, Intel's low-end 865 chipsets will be completely phased out in the second quarter of 2007, and its 945 and 946 chipsets will then target the entry-level and mid-range markets, noted the sources. "
