Did you know that PCSTATS articles on cutting your own lengths of CAT5 cable, using tools like an Ethernet Cable tester for T568A and T568B straight-through or crossover cable, gear like RJ45 Ethernet crimpers, and some tips on wiring your home for Ethernet? Last year PCSTATS reviewed Cisco's book: Home Networking Simplified, which turned out to be a good illustrated guide to setting up a home network.
PCSTATS Beginners Guides have focused on networking issues and tasks at least three times. The Beginners Guide to Wireless Home Networking, Wireless Network Security, Internet Connection Sharing, and Home Networking and File Sharing. All are must reads if you are considering installing or managing a wired network in your home or office.
In the mean time, stay tuned for PCSTATS 14-part series looking at the lowly Ethernet cable. We'll be covering everything from the mining of copper to the extrusion of polyvinyl chloride cable sheathing and electrical signal and RFI considerations. It is certain to make Ken Burns proud. ;-)
Or better yet, a more practical Guide to printer Sharing on a Home Network.
