Digitimes is reporting what we've all known for some time - VIA is (allegedly) no longer in the chipset business. Frustrated with a lack of development in the chipset field VIA dominated at one time, the VP of the core logic division is taking 40 engineers with him and defecting to a company owned by Asustek. "VIA Technology vice president and general manager of the company's platform business, Chewei Lin, will resign from his post and take around 40 technicians from VIA's chipset research team to join IC designer ASMedia Technology, a subsidiary of Asustek Computer, according to sources at VIA.
Lin decided to leave VIA because the company is being squeezed by companies like Intel, AMD and Nvidia plus the fact that the future of VIA's chipset product line is uncertain, according to the sources.
VIA stated that it has not hear of any group resignation and added that it is normal for employees to leave after a reorganization. VIA announced a corporate restructuring into three core business groups in November of 2006."
