With a recent large earthquake in Sichuan province of China causing a suspension of the operation of Intel's packaging and testing plant located there, motherboard makers expect the impact will cause only a short-term supply problem with no obvious shortage to occur in the third quarter of this year.
Intel has pointed out the company will spread the production from the affected plant to its packaging and testing plants in other regions.
Since first-tier motherboard or PC makers still have first priority in supply, smaller scale makers will be the most affected by the effects from the quake, noted sources at motherboard makers.
