While the Freezone Elite can be hooked up directly to your Power Supply and motherboard, you'd miss out on a lot of features, control and flexibility without the MTEC. The MTEC was introduced by CoolIT about 9 months ago and has undergone a lot of software improvements in that time. The MTEC can be purchased separately, but thankfully it is included in the package of the Freezone Elite.
