"Panasonic said Wednesday that it was shedding 15,000 jobs, the second mass layoff in the Japanese electronics industry in less than a week and the latest example of how Japanese companies were scrambling to cut costs in the face of evaporating demand.
Panasonic, along with Mitsubishi Motors and Mazda, joined the rapidly lengthening list of companies to sharply revise their full-year outlooks, with Panasonic now projecting a net loss of ¥380 billion, or $4.3 billion, for the business year ending March 31, rather than the ¥30 billion profit it had forecast in November.
Mitsubishi expects a net loss of ¥60 billion and Mazda ¥13 billion."
