AMD has introduced Thuban, the codename for their first-ever six-core
desktop processor. Intel released their own some time ago, but not too
many people are willing to drop $1000 on a CPU. Instead, $200 or $300
will get you a fresh Phenom II X6 from AMD.
But what about Intel? In the same price range, they are giving you
eight logical cores, thanks to HyperThreading. Do AMD’s six hardware
cores have what it takes to compete with Core i7?

HIS HD 4770 card |

Using the Overdrive feature in the Catalyst 9.5 Driver, we maxed the HIS card out at the limit for both core and memory speed. Stock settings are 750MHz on the core and 3.2GHz on the memory (800MHz x 4). Within a couple of minutes we were at the max 830MHz on the core and 3.4GHz (850MHz x 4) on the memory. The HD 4770 has lots of room to go as was VERY apparent to us.
