While strolling through the PAX 2010 show floor, I came upon a row of vendors that will be very familiar to the faithful readers of OCModShop: namely Zalman, InWin, Cooler Master, Kingston, and Patriot Memory. Patriot has been known for their DDR memory and flash storage devices
, and it appears they are branching out into multimedia appliances as well.
Mary Phuong showed me to a small kiosk that was demoing their new Box Office product, which is a multimedia appliance that can not only stream just about any kind of media over the network, but import and play DVDs, Bluray, and just about anything under the sun. It also has all of the connections to hook up to just about any display, from legacy TV sets to state-of-the-art HDMI OLED displays.

The base is the Heatpipe Direct Touch design we first saw on Kingwin coolers that is now shared by many manufacturers all over the world. Why; because it works and works well. Traditional heatpipes are mounted inside a copper or aluminum billet that transfers heat from the processor to the heatpipe by way of the billet. By cutting out the middle man so to say, thermal energy is more quickly transferred up to all that convection area waiting above.
