"LG Electronics Inc. said it has developed a next-generation optical disk that offers four
times the capacity of existing DVDs.
Also, the company said it developed the world's first video disk player (VDP) that offers
very high resolution. The new VDP has the capacity to play more than two hours worth of
HD resolution images, or much more than that of the average digital video disk player.
The optical disk is 12cm in size and only a quarter the width of regular compact disks.
"Because VDPs are compatible with digital TVs, we expect to gain a firm foothold in the
next-generation A/V market," an LG official said."
