The Card & Overclocking

What videocard review would be complete without a section on overclocking?

Sporting 3.3ns Infineon BGA DDR SGRAM that is clocked at 550 MHz, ATi has underclocked the memory by about 10% since 3.3ns DDR RAM should be able to clock as high as 606 MHz. With no additional cooling on the BGA RAM, we were able to hit a high of 660 MHz before we encountered visual artifacts and it would go all the way up to 700 MHz before locking up (with quite a bit of "snow" however).

As for the core, it is cooled by a rather generic ATI heatsink fan combo which is attached with some thermal glue. Even with this cooling setup we were pleased to see that the core would go all the way up to 308 MHz!

That's quite a good core overclock with default cooling.

As you'll see in the benchmarks at stock speeds, the All in Wonder Radeon 8500 128MB is quite a force, overclocked just makes things better!
