Hammer x86-64 & a Few Final Words

As we all know by now, there is a hammer processor planned for every sector of the market; from notebooks, desktops, workstations to servers. Hammer is both a 32 bit processor and a 64 bit processor which means that it can be used with both types of software applications. Currently, there is no real need for 64 bit apps, but this move is more for future proofing. The Hammer processor has an integrated memory controller which runs at clock speed as opposed to by the FSB.

AMD is also leading the way with their HyperTransport. Since it's an open system, it allows for other manufacturers to adopt it easily and modify it at will.

Final Words

AMD has gone first class with their Tech Tour, they do an excellent job in educating the retailers out there about their current and future products. It's nice to see a manufacturer reach out to the people working in computer stores who ultimately sell their goods and show them a good time as well. Listening to most of the other people in the audience talk, I got the feeling that most individuals were able to absorb all the information that was thrown around during the seminar. The other manufacturers did a good job at telling the people about their current and future products so there was something for everyone.

There were a whole slew of prizes given away during the seminar, notably an MSI nForce based motherboard, Gigabyte 7VRXP, Gigabyte Radeon 8500, two Duron 1.3 GHz processors, an AthlonXP 2100+ and nine AthlonXP 2000+'s. Of course, I wasn't one of the luckier ones ;-(
