While plenty of Athlon64 motherboards were on display, many are unlikely to hit store shelves until late in 2003, when A64 chip supplies improve.

Tyan Motherboards

Tyan Trinity K8: The Trinity K8 is the only K8 Tyan motherboard to support the socket 754 Athlon64 processor, and is designed for low-end server, or workstation applications. The board supports up to 3GB of DDR333 memory, and is based on the popular VIA K8T800 and VT8237 chipsets. Gigabite LAN comes courtesy of a Broadcom controller, and 10/100 LAN care of the VIA VT6103 PHY. Other features of this compact ATX motherboard include ATA100, AGP8X, SATA Raid, 6-channel audio and SPDIF in/out.

Tyan Tomcat K8S: Tyan are known for their boards that start with a "T" for the very simple fact that they are among the best engineered and most stable in the industry. The Tomcat K8S doesn't mess around in providing a 1U solution for single processor socket 940 Opteron or Athlon64 FX processors. Features include onboard graphics care of an ATI Rage XL with 8MB memory, AMD 8111 chipset, and support for 8GB of Registered DDR333 memory. If that doesn't satisfy your cravings for an A64 ATX motherboard I'm not sure what will. LAN care of Broadcom GbE controller and a secondary 10/100 port are standard, as is ATA133, SATA RAID, and the complete lack of an AGP slot... that's right, although this is an ATX sized board, it certainly isn't intended to be used in desktop workstations. The Tomcat K8S is a server board, so run with it!

Tyan Tiger K8W: Intended for workstation environments, the Tiger K8W packs in quite a bit into an ATX sized 6-layer PCB. The dual socket 940 Opteron or Athlon64 FX processors are accompanied by as much as 8GB of Registered DDR333 memory and AMD's 8151 and 8111 chipsets. The board features AGP8X, ATA133, SATA RAID, 6-channel audio, and Intel GbE LAN. Cool hunh?
