Benchmarks: PCMark04, 3DMark2001, X2: The Threat

PCMark04 Source: FutureMark

PCMark04 is the latest version of the popular PCMark series. PCMark04 is an application-based benchmark and a premium tool for measuring overall PC performance. It uses portions of real applications instead of including very large applications or using specifically created code. This allows PCMark04 to be a smaller installation as well as to report very accurate results.

Since PCMark04 is newer, things are a lot tighter. Here again we see that the Samsung and Crucial DDR-2 memory are neck and neck at stock. No surprise considering they're running the same speed, with the same timings.

3DMark2001SE Source: FutureMark

By combining DirectX8 support with completely new graphics, it continues to provide good overall system benchmarks. 3DMark2001SE has been created in cooperation with the major 3D accelerator and processor manufacturers to provide a reliable set of diagnostic tools. The suite demonstrates 3D gaming performance by using real-world gaming technology to test a system's true performance abilities. Tests include: DirectX8 Vertex Shaders, Pixel Shaders and Point Sprites, DOT3 and Environment Mapped Bump Mapping, support for Full Scene Anti-aliasing and Texture Compression and two game tests using Ipion real-time physics.

Higher numbers denote better performance.

3DMark2001 scores are a bit on the low side, but that's because we're using a GeForcePCX 5750 PCI-Express videocard. Scores are in line with what we'd expect, and stock performance is the same for each stick of memory.

X2: The Threat Source: Egosoft

A completely rewritten 3D engine based on DirectX8 encompasses many visual effects such as volumetric Nebulae (gas clouds) that have a real impact in the game (you can hide in them), many new engine, shield, weapon and explosion effects. Objects cast real dynamic 3D shadows! Dynamic DP3 bump mapping allows a previously unseen level of detail.

It's nice to see that both Samsung and Crucial DDR-2 memory perform the same at stock speeds. If they weren't, something would definitely be wrong.
