AMD Athlon64 4000+ Socket 939 Processor Review
AMD Athlon64 4000+ Socket 939 Processor Review - PCSTATS
The Athlon 64 4000+ is not clocked faster than its nearest predecessor, but that doesn't preclude it from obtaining a healthy boost in the benchmarks thanks to 1MB L2 Cache.

Benchmarks: PCMark04, 3DMark2001

PCMark04 Source: FutureMark

PCMark04 is the latest version of the popular PCMark series. PCMark04 is an application-based benchmark and a premium tool for measuring overall PC performance. It uses portions of real applications instead of including very large applications or using specifically created code. This allows PCMark04 to be a smaller installation as well as to report very accurate results.

PCMark04:
Overall Points Ranking
Pentium 4 540 (3.2 GHz) 5422
Athlon64 3800+ 4943
Athlon64 4000+ (NF3) 4943
Athlon64 4000+ (VIA) 4992
Athlon64 4000+ @ 2.72 GHz (VIA) 5519
CPU Points Ranking
Pentium 4 540 (3.2 GHz) 5284
Athlon64 3800+ 4539
Athlon64 4000+ (NF3) 4546
Athlon64 4000+ (VIA) 4558
Athlon64 4000+ @ 2.72 GHz (VIA) 5151

Clock speed is where it’s at in PCmark 2004! The Athlon64 4000+ processor isn't quite able to dramatically distinguish itself from the Athlon64 3800+, even with its extra L2 cache memory.

Increasing the clock speed of the A64 4000+ processor through overclocking provides some tangible performance gains, but the results are split evenly between Intel's 3.6GHz and AMD's 2.4GHz chips here.

3DMark2001 Source: FutureMark

By combining DirectX8 support with completely new graphics, it continues to provide good overall system benchmarks. 3DMark2001 SE has been created in cooperation with the major 3D accelerator and processor manufacturers to provide a reliable set of diagnostic tools. The suite demonstrates 3D gaming performance by using real-world gaming technology to test a system's true performance abilities. Tests include: DirectX8 Vertex Shaders, Pixel Shaders and Point Sprites, DOT3 and Environment Mapped Bump Mapping, support for Full Scene Anti-aliasing and Texture Compression and two game tests using Ipion real-time physics. Higher 3DMark scores denote better performance.

3DMark2001 Benchmark Results
Processor Points Ranking
Pentium 4 540 (3.2 GHz) 23249
Athlon64 3800+ 27002
Athlon64 4000+ (NF3) 28383
Athlon64 4000+ (VIA) 28908
Athlon64 4000+ @ 2.72 GHz (VIA) 30596

There are some very tangible results here in 3Dmark 2001, as the Athlon64 4000+ pulls out ahead with its extra cache memory providing a boost. The VIA chipset posted considerably better scores, and overclocking AMD's newest CPU to 2.72GHz pulled in respectable gains.
