Benchmarks: Comanche 4, X2: The Threat

Comanche 4 Source: Novalogic

The Comanche 4 benchmark demo is a unique test as it represents a real-world gaming experience. It contains the single player "Eagle's Talon" mission from the game as well as a detailed cinematic. This DirectX 8.1 benchmark demo will measure your system's performance in the standard frames per second format. The benchmark was run with audio disabled.

Comanche 4 - Intel CPU
640x480 FPS Ranking
Gigabyte GA-8N-SLI Royal (NF4-SLI 200/533) 57.79
Albatron PX925XE Pro-R (925XE 200/533) 58.25
Gigabyte GA-8ANXP-D (i925X 200/533) 59.44
MSI 915P Neo2 Platinum (i915P 200/533) 56.07
DFI LANParty 875P-T (i875P 200/400) 55.72
VIA PT894 Ref Motherboard (PT894 200/533) 56.03

ECS RS400-A (RS400 200/400) 54.51
ECS PF88 Extreme (SiS 656 200/400) 53.09

The ECS PF88 Extreme is not intended to be a high-end gamers platform so it is not a surprise to see it come in last by a small margin.

Comanche 4 - AMD CPU
640x480 FPS Ranking
ASRock K8 Combo-Z/ASR (Ali M1689 200/400) 78.26

ECS PF88 Extreme (SiS 756 200/400) 80.61

Athlon64 platforms all perform roughly the same on this benchmark, including the ECS PF88 Extreme.

X2: The Threat Source: Egosoft

A completely rewritten 3D engine based on DirectX8 encompasses many visual effects such as volumetric Nebulae (gas clouds) that have a real impact in the game (you can hide in them) and many new engine, shield, weapon and explosion effects. Objects cast real dynamic 3D shadows! Dynamic DP3 bump mapping allows a previously unseen level of detail.

X2 The Threat - Intel CPU
640x480 FPS Ranking
Gigabyte GA-8N-SLI Royal (NF4-SLI 200/533) 162.596
Albatron PX925XE Pro-R (925XE 200/533) 176.298
Gigabyte GA-8ANXP-D (i925X 200/533) 184.172
MSI 915P Neo2 Platinum (i915P 200/533) 173.165
DFI LANParty 875P-T (i875P 200/400) 166.843
VIA PT894 Ref Motherboard (PT894 200/533) 174.335
ASRock 775V88 (PT880 200/400) 166.333
ECS RS400-A (RS400 200/400) 151.124
ECS PF88 Extreme (SiS 656 200/400) 118.3

We were very surprised to see these results and yes, we did rerun the tests a few times. Hopefully this is a driver issue.

X2 The Threat - AMD CPU
640x480 FPS Ranking
ASRock K8 Combo-Z/ASR (Ali M1689 200/400) 189.189
Soltek SL-K8TPro-939 (K8T800 Pro 200/400) 192.078
Epox 9NDA3+ (NF3 Ultra 200/400) 198.56
Albatron K8X890 Pro II (K8T890 200/400) 208.974
MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum (NF4 Ultra 200/400) 172.74
Chaintech Zenith VNF4 Ultra (NF4 Ultra 200/400) 171.042
MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum/SLI (NF4 SLI 200/400) 211.237
DFI LANParty NF4 SLI-DR (NF4-SLI 200/400) 185.347
ECS PF88 Extreme (SiS 756 200/400) 186.532

Drivers do not seem to be a problem on the AMD side of the benchmark, and the ECS PF88 Extreme performs very well!
