Benchmarks: X2: The Threat, UT2003

X2: The Threat Source: Egosoft

A completely rewritten 3D engine based on DirectX8 encompasses many visual effects such as volumetric Nebulae (gas clouds) that have a real impact in the game (you can hide in them) and many new engine, shield, weapon and explosion effects. Objects cast real dynamic 3D shadows! Dynamic DP3 bump mapping allows a previously unseen level of detail.

X2 The Threat
640x480 FPS Ranking
Albatron PX925XE Pro-R (925XE 200/533) 176.298
Gigabyte GA-8ANXP-D (i925X 200/533) 184.172
MSI 915P Neo2 Platinum (i915P 200/533) 173.165

ASRock 775V88 (PT880 200/400) 166.333
VIA PT894 Ref Motherboard (PT894 200/533) 174.335
AOpen i915Pa-PLF (915P 200/400) 176.477
Gigabyte GA-8N-SLI Royal (NF4-SLI 200/533) 162.596
ECS RS400-A (RS400 200/400) 151.124
Gigabyte GA-8I945P Pro (945P 200/400) 160.478

The Gigabyte GA-8I945P Pro is a fair bit off the pace in the X2 benchmark, and we'd speculate it's because of the mediocre memory bandwidth scores again. The 925X boards excel here.

Unreal Tournament 2003

Source: Epic

Unreal Tournament 2003 is the sequel to 1999's multiple 'Game of the Year' award winner. It uses the very latest Unreal Engine technology - where graphics, sound and game play are taken beyond the bleeding edge. Unreal Tournament 2003 employs the use of Vertex as well as Pixel Shaders and it's recommended that you use a DirectX 8 videocard to get the most out of the game.

ECS RS400-A (RS400 200/400) 76.02
Gigabyte GA-8I945P Pro (945P 200/400) 79.41

Again we see mediocre 3D scores for the Gigabyte GA-8I945P Pro. It's not much behind the pace though, which is encouraging. The Pentium D CPU does not seem to do much for gaming scores.
