Benchmarks: 3DMark2001, 3DMark05, X2: The Threat

3DMark2001SE Source: FutureMark

By combining DirectX8 support with completely new graphics, 3DMark 2001 SE continues to provide a good overall system benchmark. 3DMark2001 SE was created in co-operation with the major 3D accelerator and processor manufacturers to provide a reliable set of diagnostic tools. The suite demonstrates 3D gaming performance by using real-world gaming technology to test a system's true abilities. Tests include: DirectX8 Vertex Shaders, Pixel Shaders and Point Sprites, DOT3 and Environment Mapped Bump Mapping, support for Full Scene Anti-aliasing and Texture Compression and two game tests using Ipion real-time physics. Higher 3DMark scores denote better performance.

3DMark2001SE:
Memory Points Ranking
2x 512MB PQI Turbo PQI25400-1GDB (200/533) 23156
2x 512MB Crucial Ballistix PC2-5400 (200/533) 23244
2x 512MB Mushkin PC2-4200 (200/533) 23186
2x 512MB Crucial Ballistix PC2-4200 (200/533) 22644
2x 512MB Crucial Ballistix PC2-4200 (242/644) 25843

Here in 3DMark2001, the Crucial Ballistix PC2-4200 memory scores slightly lower than the rest of the memory at stock speeds. This is most likely due to its looser 4-4-4-10 timings. Overclocking gives the system a decent boost however.

3DMark05 Source: FutureMark

3DMark05 is the latest version of the highly favoured 3DMark graphics benchmarking series. It is the first benchmark to require DirectX®9.0 compliant hardware with support for Pixel Shader 2.0 or higher.

3DMark05
Overall Points Ranking
2x 512MB PQI Turbo PQI25400-1GDB (200/533) 5241
2x 512MB Crucial Ballistix PC2-5400 (200/533) 5221
2x 512MB Mushkin PC2-4200 (200/533) 5218

2x 512MB Crucial Ballistix PC2-4200 (242/644) 5613
CPU Points Ranking
2x 512MB PQI Turbo PQI25400-1GDB (200/533) 4926
2x 512MB Crucial Ballistix PC2-5400 (200/533) 4968
2x 512MB Mushkin PC2-4200 (200/533) 4955
2x 512MB Crucial Ballistix PC2-4200 (200/533) 4822
2x 512MB Crucial Ballistix PC2-4200 (242/644) 5772

In 3DMark05 we actually see the system using the Crucial Ballistix PC2-4200 DDR2 beat all the competition in the overall score, but that same system does worse in the CPU portion of the benchmark when not overclocked.

X2: The Threat Source: Egosoft

A completely rewritten 3D engine based on DirectX8 encompasses many visual effects such as volumetric Nebulae (gas clouds) that have a real impact in the game (you can hide in them) and many new engine, shield, weapon and explosion effects. Objects cast real dynamic 3D shadows! Dynamic DP3 bump mapping allows a previously unseen level of detail.

X2 The Threat
640x480 FPS Ranking
2x 512MB PQI Turbo PQI25400-1GDB (200/533) 170.538
2x 512MB Crucial Ballistix PC2-5400 (200/533) 172.551
2x 512MB Mushkin PC2-4200 (200/533) 171.365
2x 512MB Crucial Ballistix PC2-4200 (200/533) 170.165
2x 512MB Crucial Ballistix PC2-4200 (242/644) 196.944

The Crucial Ballixtix PC2-4200 memory does quite well in this test, it is able to keep up with the other memory despite running looser timings.
