Benchmarks: X3: Reunion, Doom 3, Quake 4

X3: Reunion

Source: EGOSOFT

Extensive development has gone into the X³ engine, making full use of DirectX 9 technology, to create dramatic visual effects and stunningly realistic starships. Coupled with the massively enhanced A.L. (Artificial Life) system, X³: REUNION will present players with an ever changing, evolving universe; where a players actions really can shape the future of the universe.

X3: Reunion
1024x768: FPS Ranking
Foxconn 975X7AA-8EKRS2H (975X 200/667) 58.146
ASRock AM2V890-VSTA (K8T890 200/800) 72.187
MSI K9N SLI Platinum (NF 570 SLI 200/800) 69.386
Foxconn C51XEM2AA (NF 590 SLI 200/800 GeForce 7800GTX Single) 74.145
Asus M2N32SLI-DLX (NF 590 SLI 200/800 GeForce 7800GTX Single) 73.743
Biostar Tforce 6100 AM2 (GF 6100 200/800 Onboard Video) 9.132
Biostar Tforce 6100 AM2 (GF 6100 200/800 7800GTX) 67.468
Albatron KM51PV-AM2 (GF6150 200/800 Onboard Video) 9.941
Albatron KM51PV-AM2 (GF6150 200/800 7800GTX) 73.149

X3: Reunion is a very difficult benchmark for the onboard GeForce 6150 but as the other tests show, if you're a gamer a PCI Express x16 videocard can get you some awesome framerates.

Doom 3 Source: id Software

Doom 3 takes advantage of the latest videocard technology and pushes the processing power of the CPU to its absolute limit. At its highest setting, Ultra quality, texture sizes pass the 500MB mark which means even tomorrow's videocards will have a hard time running everything. The frame rates in the game itself are locked at 60 fps so anything above that point is wasted. Each test is run three times with the third run being recorded.

Doom 3:
LQ 640x480: FPS Ranking
Foxconn 975X7AA-8EKRS2H (975X 200/667) 138.4
ASRock AM2V890-VSTA (K8T890 200/800) 163.5
MSI K9N SLI Platinum (NF 570 SLI 200/800) 172

Asus M2N32SLI-DLX (NF 590 SLI 200/800 GeForce 7800GTX Single) 168.9
Biostar Tforce 6100 AM2 (GF 6100 200/800 Onboard Video) 20.5
Biostar Tforce 6100 AM2 (GF 6100 200/800 7800GTX) 139.8
Albatron KM51PV-AM2 (GF6150 200/800 Onboard Video) 21.1
Albatron KM51PV-AM2 (GF6150 200/800 7800GTX) 173.4

I don't think you'll want to use the onboard video to play Doom 3, the framerates with the GeForce 6150 are just not high enough. The Albatron KM51PV-AM2 is quite a high end slayer of motherboards though, with a Geforce 7800GTX videocard it can hit a very respectable 173 fps. That is the highest of any Socket AM2 motherboard we have tested thus far.

Quake 4

Source: id Software

Quake 4 is the latest shooter from ID and is based on the Doom 3 engine. Tweaked to for more eye candy, Quake 4 promises to be tougher on videocards and systems than its predecessor was. Quake 4 also does not have a 60 fps limiter like Doom 3, with the Ultra setting, graphic textures can surpass the 500MB mark! Each test is run three times and with the third run being recorded.

Quake 4
LQ 640x480: FPS Ranking
Foxconn 975X7AA-8EKRS2H (975X 200/667) 142.8

Asus M2N32SLI-DLX (NF 590 SLI 200/800 GeForce 7800GTX Single) 161.4
Biostar Tforce 6100 AM2 (GF 6100 200/800 Onboard Video) 33.7
Biostar Tforce 6100 AM2 (GF 6100 200/800 7800GTX) 157.2
Albatron KM51PV-AM2 (GF6150 200/800 Onboard Video) 35.2
Albatron KM51PV-AM2 (GF6150 200/800 7800GTX) 167.8

In the final benchmark of the day, the Albatron KM51PV-AM2 does very well in Quake 4. Framerates with the onboard videocard are decent for casual gamers, and with a GeForce 7800GTX installed they are quite respectable.
