ASUS EN9600GT DI/512MD3/A Geforce 9600GT Rev.B Videocard Review

ASUS EN9600GT DI/512MD3/A Geforce 9600GT Rev.B Videocard Review - PCSTATS
Abstract: The Radeon HD 4770 has been widely praised for its lower power consumption, in no small part due to its die-shrink to 40nm. Will NVIDIA's new steppings allow the Geforce 9600GT to compete in terms of power efficiency?

AA/AF Videocard Benchmarks: FarCry 2, Crysis

Far Cry 2 - AA/AF Tests

Source: Ubisoft

Far Cry 2 takes place in a fictional modern-day East African nation in a state of anarchy and civil war. The player takes control of a mercenary on a lengthy journey to locate and assassinate 'the Jackal," a notorious arms dealer. Far Cry 2 has extensive benchmarking tests that can be configured to break down system performance in several ways.

For whatever reason, the ASUS EN9600GT DI/512MD3/A videocard manages to outperform the Geforce GTS 250 in everything but the most intensive of tests in Far Cry 2. Both NVIDIA cards lose to the Radeon HD 4770 by embarrassing margins, and remain largely unplayable at any of the graphics settings.

Crysis 1.2 - AA/AF Tests

Source: Electronic Arts

Crysis is a science fiction first-person shooter developed by Crytek. Crysis uses Microsoft's new API, DirectX 10 for graphics rendering, and includes the new engine—the CryEngine 2—that is the successor to Far Cry's CryEngine. CryEngine 2 is among the first engines to use the DirectX 10 framework of Windows Vista, but can also run using DirectX 9, both on Vista and Windows XP.

In the last of today's benchmarks, mixing Crysis with a 9600GT and anti-aliasing just doesn't work. Anemic scores across the board pretty much confirm that the Geforce 9600GT was never meant for gaming at these kinds of resolutions.
