David vs Goliath: Can AMD Stand and Fight? @ Hi Tech Legion
     Thu, Feb 02 2012 | 11:15P | CPU / Processors | PermaLink
Posted by: STAFF
Desktop computing is beginning to see its territories being conquered piece by piece. Over the last few years a new realm has risen from the sand and it is called mobile computing. At first this realm struggled due to the lack of acceptance, which was mainly based on the price paid to acquire such technology. Over the last two years we have seen these mobile realms gain acceptance due to the fact that many of the well-established desktop realms are moving forward to conquer new lands. The desktop realms that have made the move are beginning to see rewards while those who have not are beginning to suffer as their land becomes devoured.///"

AMD A8-3870K Unlocked Llano 3.0 GHz Quad Core APU Review @ Hi Tech Legion
     Mon, Jan 30 2012 | 4:45P | CPU / Processors | PermaLink
Posted by: STAFF
The A8-3870K APU is the latest release from AMD. The A8-3870K offers quad core performance with 3.0GHz speed. This Llano APU comes with a 100MHz speed bump over the A8-3850, so the stock performance won`t differ tremendously. The key difference, however, is the unlocked multiplier. The unlocked multiplier offers easier overclocking as seen with AMD`s other Black Edition processors. All prior Llano APUs have locked multipliers, therefore overclocking requires more trouble. All of the same features seen on the A8-3850 are seen on the A8-3870K. The Radeon 6550D has been integrated, which offers 400 shader units and runs at 600MHz. This is the best Radeon that can be attained on a Llano APU. There is still support for dual graphics as well as memory up to 1866MHz.///"

Intel Core i7-2600K 3.40GHz Processor w/Turbo Boost

"A recent survey conducted by Crucial (The Memory Experts) indicated that computer owners in the United States of America, United Kingdom, and France, were electing to replace their computers after 4.5-years of purchase, meaning people are holding on to their machines for a much longer time. . What this means is that a good chunk of you should still be running some type of Intel Core 2 offering based on the LGA775 socket, whether it be single-core, dual-core, or quad-core configuration. Unfortunately, it is no longer sufficient for a power user or a reviewer that requires the latest system. With that said, this is a perfect lead-in to today’s review. Today I get to experience the fruits of Intel’s hard labor and share with you about Intel’s newest and top of the line offering in the form of the Intel Core i7-2600K microprocessor. Read on to see if you should be thinking of replacing your 4.5-year old computer with one from Intel."

AMD A8-3870K Unlocked Llano Quad-Core APU Review
     Wed, Jan 25 2012 | 2:03P | CPU / Processors | PermaLink
Posted by: STAFF
The original A-Series APU line-up didn’t feature any enthusiast-targeted products, but AMD quickly reacted to the A-Series’ mostly favorable reception with a new flagship, dubbed the A8-3870K Black Edition, which we’ll be showing you here today. In its default configuration, the A8-3870K is a slight upgrade from the A8-3850, thanks to a small increase in its default CPU frequency. The “K” in its part number, however, means the chip is unlocked, which makes for some interesting overclocking. When paired to the right motherboard, which features an updated BIOS / UEFI that fully supports the A8-3870K, this APU is able to hang with some of AMD’s fastest quad-core desktop processors, while also offering discrete-class GPU performance...

AMD A6 3500 triple core APU review
     Wed, Jan 25 2012 | 2:02P | CPU / Processors | PermaLink
Posted by: STAFF
We look at entry level hardware, for a great deal you get some processor power and actually quite some decent GPU power all harbored inside that processor. We'll go even weirder though, as today we'll be testing a triple core APU, yes that is an APU with three physical CPU cores activated, instead of the four you expected. The three CPU cores product was actually announced back in August already but now finally seems to be available in good volume in the stores, at the nice price of only 70 EUR here in the Netherlands.

[Tech ARP] CPU Performance Comparison Guide Rev. 6.5
     Wed, Jan 25 2012 | 12:46P | CPU / Processors | PermaLink
Posted by: STAFF
This article compiles the best benchmark results we collected of various CPU models using x264 HD Benchmark 4.0, a free CPU benchmark developed by graysky, Dashken and Adrian Wong. This CPU performance comparison guide currently covers 120 different CPU models plus another 283 CPUs in the older comparison but this is just the beginning. We will keep updating the results as new results come in, so please contribute your results. If you would like to participate in this endeavor, head over to the x264 HD Benchmark 4.0 page and download a copy. After you obtain your benchmark results, simply post them in the official forum thread of x264 HD Benchmark 4.0. Please post your results even if your processor is already listed in the comparison. This is because we will use your results if they are better than the results currently listed in the comparison. Here is the list of updates : - Added the Intel Core i7-3930X desktop processor (overclocked to 4.25 GHz). - Added the AMD Phenom II X6 960T desktop processor (overclocked to 4.0 GHz). - Added the AMD Athlon II X2 260 desktop processor (overclocked to 3.6 GHz). - Added the AMD Athlon II X2 260 desktop processor. - Added the Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 desktop processor (overclocked to 2.66 GHz). - Added the AMD Athlon 64 X2 5050e desktop processor (overclocked to 3.2 GHz)."

AMD Announces Q4 2011 Results
     Wed, Jan 25 2012 | 9:39A | CPU / Processors | PermaLink
Posted by: STAFF
AMD also seemed quite proud to have reduced their headcount this past quarter. Estimates show that this is saving the company around $200 million a quarter. While trimming the fat is always a good idea, I wonder how many of these cuts could truly be considered fat? When people like Carrell Killebrew are sent packing (who made some huge decisions in terms of design to keep AMD competitive with NVIDIA after the R600 disaster), we only hope the cuts did not in fact take too large of a toll."

AMD Llano A8-3870K APU Review @ TechwareLabs

With AMDs` Llano and Bulldozer line releasing within 8 months of each other it was only a matter of time before we saw them merge. The main complaint about Llano was the inability to overclock anything. Well now we see 2 unlocked versions come into the market: the A8-3870k and the A6-3670k. With AMDs rich heritage in overclocking and GPUs what kind of performance can we expect out of these? Lets first take a look at the new line desktop Llano APUs."
