HIS 6950 IceQ 2GB Review - XSReviews
     Tue, Nov 22 2011 | 2:35P | Video Cards | PermaLink
Posted by: STAFF
Today we`re looking at the HIS 6950 IceQ. It`s HIS`s take on a regular 6950, featuring a custom PCB and cooler. Running at the same speed as a reference card, there won`t be much performance improvement until we begin overclocking, where the custom cooler with its massive fan should come into play. Let`s see how it performs."

Sapphire Radeon 6850 Vapor-X with Dirt 3 @ TechwareLabs.com
     Tue, Nov 22 2011 | 12:30P | Video Cards | PermaLink

Purchasing a video card can be very confusing. Looking at the different model lines and features across multiple manufacturers boasting over clocked memory, or specialty cooling can be enough to make your head spin. Focusing on AMD there are two series that are Direct x 11 compatible the 5000 and 6000 series GPU`s. Released in 2010 the 6000 series cards are the second generation DX 11 GPU`s and offer AMD PowerTune technology making the cards more energy efficient with lower operating temperatures. Today we have the Sapphire Vapor-X HD6850, here is what Sapphire has to say:"

PowerColor DEVIL 13 HD 6970 2GB Video Card Review
     Mon, Nov 21 2011 | 8:47A | Video Cards | PermaLink
Posted by: STAFF
Today it`s all about the new DEVIL 13 card that we saw show up the other week. This card instantly grabbed my eye and I really wanted to check it out. Ask and you shall receive; today is all about the PowerColor DEVIL 13 HD 6970 2GB. There`s been a few changes to everything around here since we last looked at a video card, but we`ll cover that all in just a few pages. The first thing we need to do is find out what this new HD 6970 is all about. Pulling the new DEVIL 13 out of the box, you find yourself staring at a very hot looking card with a red / black color scheme going on. What I really love, though, is that PowerColor have opted to go with a black PCB to fit in with everything else. So often we see these really nice coolers installed on a card and then a company has that horrible green PCB stand out."

Overclockers.com - MSI Twin Frozr III 6950 1GB Review
     Mon, Nov 21 2011 | 4:59A | Video Cards | PermaLink
Posted by: STAFF
Today MSI has given us an opportunity to check out their Twin Frozr III 6950 1GB. What makes this a bit different from other 6950?s are the 1GB of memory and MSI?s Twin Frozr III cooler which make claims of ~14 dB quieter and 11 °C temperature differences over reference cooled models."

Mobile GPU Comparison: GeForce GTX 580M and Radeon HD 6990M
     Sat, Nov 19 2011 | 10:29P | Video Cards | PermaLink
Posted by: STAFF
I do think the GTX 580M provides the best overall user experience with support for Optimus switchable graphics as well the potential future-looking graphics performance seen in our Ultra quality settings test of Battlefield 3. The NVIDIA Verde driver program is also a benefit over what AMD has traditionally done in the mobile market. The NVIDIA driver team has been releasing mobile-compatible driver updates on a much more regular basis than AMD has been and in most cases are running version-for-version with the desktop parts."

3D Vision Gets Updated with LightBoost Larger Panels and New Glasses
     Sat, Nov 19 2011 | 12:23P | Video Cards | PermaLink
Posted by: STAFF
LightBoost is the brand associated with changes in 3D panel display technology that supposedly alleviates much of the brightness concern from 3D gaming. The LED backlight will now pulse twice as bright in unison with the glasses so that the 3D brightness can appear as much as twice as bright when combined with the new, faster shutter on the updated 3D Vision glasses. This is what allows the glasses to be be left open longer to provide more environmental light for the gamer, allowing viewing of the environment (like the keyboard, cell phone, etc) to be brighter as well."

MSI GTX 580 Lightning Twin Frozr III @ PureOverclock
     Sat, Nov 19 2011 | 7:08A | Video Cards | PermaLink
Posted by: STAFF
The MSI GTX 580 Lighting Twin Frozr III is a beast of a card, and MSI actually had to increase the size of the PCB to accommodate the new power design and a host of other goodies. The card certainly looks impressive on paper, but let`s see how it performs on the bench."

RAGE Performance and Image Quality Evaluation - Day 1
     Sat, Nov 19 2011 | 2:17A | Video Cards | PermaLink
Posted by: STAFF
That`s all you get PC gamers - a setting for antialiasing and a resolution option. What happens to everything else? It is all adjusted automatically by the game engine on-the-fly depending on the hardware it sits on with the sole goal of hitting that 60 FPS mark. So to be clear, the RAGE engine is built in a way that it will target 60 FPS and will adjust image quality accordingly."

MSI GeForce GTX 580 Lightning Xtreme Edition 3 GB @ techPowerUp
     Fri, Nov 18 2011 | 6:54A | Video Cards | PermaLink
Posted by: STAFF
MSI has upgraded their GTX 580 Lightning and calls it Xtreme Edition now. The biggest change is certainly the inclusion of 3 GB of GDDR5 memory. Other new features are a dust removal system and a fan that indicates overheating by color change."

Where Have All the 6970s Gone?
     Fri, Nov 18 2011 | 1:01A | Video Cards | PermaLink
Posted by: STAFF
I spoke with two manufacturers of video cards about this situation, both of which wish to remain anonymous. They gave the same answer. The reason for the lack of product on shelves is not one of demand. So basically bitcoin miners have not purchased every single card on the market (unlike the HD 5830, which is a favorite of the group). The problem is supply. AMD has not supplied these manufacturers with enough HD 6970 chips to address the actual demand."

MSI N580GTX Lightning Xtreme Edition Review: What a GTX 580 Should Be
     Thu, Nov 17 2011 | 9:52A | Video Cards | PermaLink
Posted by: STAFF
When two of these are put together, they make one of the best SLI/NVIDIA Surround combinations out there. While a user can purchase a GTX 590 (dual GPU card) for $150 more than the N580GTX Lightning Xtreme Edition, they will not get the extra memory space. Then again, purchasing two of the N580GTX Lightning Xtreme Edition cards will set a user back $1198 (give or take a few dollars). This card is not for the faint of heart, or those light of wallet. Still, when considering a high end card that *should* last quite some time, then there are few other cards that can compete with this monster."

HIS Radeon HD 6790 IceQ X Turbo 1 GB @ techPowerUp
     Thu, Nov 17 2011 | 1:41A | Video Cards | PermaLink
Posted by: STAFF
HIS has taken the AMD HD 6790 reference design, increased its clock speeds and slapped their new IceQ X thermal solution on it. The result is a solid HD 6790 card that is about 5% faster than the AMD version, which delivers awesome temperatures and good overclocking potential."

Sapphire Radeon HD 6870 DiRT 3 Special Edition Review
     Wed, Nov 16 2011 | 9:00P | Video Cards | PermaLink
Posted by: STAFF
The big discovery here is a card that was able to clock higher than any 6870 we`ve had here at OverclockersClub. This led to great performance comparatively to the reference design and the realization that maybe there`s a little bit more to be had from the 6870 line. The huge dual-fan cooler no doubt contributed to the rock star performance and successfully kept temperatures more than reasonable with moderate interruption to ambient noise. Sapphire`s TriXX utility is one of my favorites throughout the industry competitors. It is very simple to understand and is capable of achieving much higher overclocks than the utility embedded in the Catalyst Control Center."

A broken or cracked LCD screen makes a laptop utterly useless, good thing PCSTATS can show you how to replace that busted laptop screen with a minimum of fuss and for less money than a service center charges. PCSTATS will be fixing a cracked LCD screen on a Lenovo T530 ThinkPad notebook, the general procedures outlined here work for any notebook though.
