MSI GT680 Sandy Bridge Gaming Laptop Review
|
When MSI unveiled the new GT680R gaming laptop at CES this year, the company touted it as one of the "fastest, most powerful gaming notebooks in the world." As one of the first laptops to take advantage of Intel's Sandy Bridge processor, this laptop definitely packs plenty of power. Under the hood, you'll find NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460M graphics with 1.5GB of video memory, 8GB of DDR3 system memory, and two 500GB 7,200rpm hard drives...

Casio Exilim EX-H20G
|
“So you took tons of photos on your vacation, but you can't remember exactly where you were when you snapped each picture. Plenty of cameras can geotag your photos with location information, but a handheld GPS radio requires an unobstructed view of the sky to get a GPS signal. If you're shooting photos indoors, you're probably out of luck. Unless you're shooting with the 14.1-megapixel Exilim EX-H20G.”

Alienware M17X10 gaming notebook
|
This portable PC may not be all that portable - if you have a look at
the charts, you’ll see that the monster we’re reviewing this time around
weighs in at over five kilograms! This makes it clear from the ground up
that we’re talking about a desktop replacement notebook, aimed at
gamers. The desktop replacement category is intended for users that
require portability from their PCs, whether it’s work at several places,
data availability or simply gaming around, but don’t care much about the
large size and weight that are a consequence of a strong system build or
specific needs. For example, a notebook we’ve recently reviewed, ASUS’
NX90JQ with an 18” display, is about as portable as the old Sony TVs
with Trinitron cathode tubes, but they still belong to the notebook
category. Dell’s managed to make its Alienware brand synonymous with the
best money can buy in the gaming department in recent years, and
garnered quite a following among hardcore gamers that way. Well, after
years of staring at their models at various fairs, we’ve finally had the
chance to test one out for ourselves. The model that we’ve received is a
17” model, bearing the name M17X10…

Panasonic Toughbook CF-C1
|
“If your working scenario requires a dedicated tablet the lure of Apple’s iPad is great and becoming greater as time goes on—as long as you’re not tied to Windows. Convertible tablet PCs suit those who need a physical keyboard and tablet features, but the trade-off is weight, bulk and less convenience when using a laptop in tablet mode. In the case of the Panasonic ToughBook CF-C1, the price reflects the semi-rugged features rather than the specifications, and may feel to some rather steep. Convertible tablet manufacturers need to keep at least half an eye on the tablet world going forward, and Panasonic needs to consider reducing its unit costs.”

Lenovo's exciting IdeaPad U1
|
This afternoon's preview show event at CES2010 was deluged with journalists surging from one overcrowded display to another. One of the hottest tables was where Lenovo was showing a sample of its IdeaPad U1, an Intel driven Windows 7 mini-laptop with nicely curved corners whose screen detaches effortlessly into an Android-based iPad look-alike. Full details will be released tomorrow, and company reps could only provide pricing in China, where it is set at 3500CNY (US$530) for the tablet alone, and ~8000CNY(US$1200) for the combo. An earlier version was shown at CES 2010, with the tablet running Linux when undocked. The new version looks slick, fully functional, and could be a real crowd pleaser for those who want both a tablet and a notebook.

Maingear 13.3" Clutch 13 Ultraportable Notebook Review
|
Maingear is a custom PC builder that's been making some noise lately, and for good reason. The competition is intense in this space, with a number of companies (CyberPower, Maingear, Falcon Northwest, Digital Storm, Origin, etc.) elbowing each other in order to grab the hard-earned dollars of those in need of a new machine. Maingear, like the others mentioned here, has done an excellent job staying on the cutting edge, and making sure that their lineup is full of new components just as soon as they hit the market.
Back in October, Maingear revealed two notebooks in a new series: Clutch. Today, we're taking a closer look at the smaller of the two, the 13.3" Clutch 13...

Lenovo IdeaPad U260
|
“The Lenovo IdeaPad U260 offers a minimal design that's geared towards business users, but it looks really for almost anyone. The 12.5-inch display has a 720p HD resolution and you get an HDMI port for high-definition output. There's decent, but not excellent performance, thanks to a slower hard drive.”

OtterBox Commuter Series for iPad
|
"The latest addition to my mobile tech arsenal is an Apple iPad that I recently won in a Facebook photo contest. Starting at $500 for the entry level model, the iPad certainly warrants some sort of protection against the elements / clumsy hands. Even before my new gadget arrived, I was already considering protection options. A few names instantly popped into mind, one being OtterBox. We have covered several of their mobile phone cases, spanning the likes of Apple, HTC, Blackberry and Palm, but never before have we looked at anything that couldn't fit inside your pocket."

Acer Veriton VZ410G
|
“The Acer Veriton VZ410G is an all-in-one desktop, which have increasingly become more popular, with a 3.0GHz Intel CPU, 2GB of RAM and a 21.5-inch LCD display. It has some decent connectivity, including eSATA, but lacks one crucial multimedia feature, which is what an all-in-one PC is usually all about.”

While the global demand for tablet PCs emerged in 2010 and will witness growth momentum in 2011, it will not bring competitive impact on the global demand for smartphones because of different uses, according to Asia and Pacific vice president Norm Lo for Research in Motion (RIM) speaking to Digitimes.
