Samsung 840 Pro SSD review
     Wed, Dec 12 2012 | 3:34A | Home Theatre | PermaLink
Posted by: STAFF
1.html,In this article we test, benchmark and review the Samsung 840 Pro SSD. What a stunning piece of technology this is. An SSD that is extremely fast and actually amongst the handful of fastest storage units we have ever tested. Samsung created a little monster with the 840 Pro series of SSDs, they are remarkably fast in pretty much any and all tests from our benchmark suite. Head on over into the review."

WD Red 3TB NAS Hard Drive Review @ Legit Reviews
     Tue, Dec 11 2012 | 2:17P | Home Theatre | PermaLink
Posted by: STAFF
The Western Digital Red series was designed for NAS servers and it leaves us wondering why no one did this before! Industry analysts believe that the NAS market will greatly expand in the years to come and WD now has a product to fill the void that was present. Buying the least expensive drive at your desired capacity and using it in a NAS was the popular way to find drives to populate a NAS, but now there is a hard drive series made just for NAS and RAID environments..."

Cutting the Cord Part 3: Building your HTPC - OS Install and Tuning
     Fri, Dec 07 2012 | 1:22P | Home Theatre | PermaLink
Posted by: STAFF
As I mentioned before, I originally was planning to do this build with Windows 8 Professional and the Windows 8 Media Center pack, but theres a few things that Microsoft has removed from Media Center in the new version that make using it for a Media Center a non-starter in my opinion. Not being able to boot directly into Media Center and having to boot into Metro and then launch Media Center is a deal breaker for me so I fell back to whats been working great for me these past few years, Windows 7 Home Premium."

Sony Bravia KDL-42EX440 Review @ TechReviewSource.com
     Thu, Nov 29 2012 | 1:08P | Home Theatre | PermaLink

The Sony Bravia KDL-42EX440 is a 42-inch edge-lit LED HDTV offering good color quality and wide viewing angles. It doesn`t get very bright or very dark, and lacks some of the features that come standard on many HDTVs, but its low price is appealing."

Samsung PN64E8000 64 Inch Plasma Smart TV Review @ Tweaknews
     Thu, Nov 29 2012 | 5:08A | Home Theatre | PermaLink
Posted by: STAFF
Samsung`s PN64E8000 Plasma Smart TV can be summed up as an easy purchase for the consumer that has the upgraded budget and is smart enough to see that with this one purchase you don`t only get an upgradable fantastic livingroom display, but also a trimmed down home theater pc. Add on the additional features like voice and motion control, webcam, future processor upgrades, SMART TV functionality, WIFI, Samsung APPS, Games (Angry Birds) and the difference in price seems to dwindle to an investment that over time will be boiled down to a difference of mere pennies a day."

Samsung PN64E8000 64in. Plasma Smart TV Review - BCCHardware
     Wed, Nov 28 2012 | 10:00A | Home Theatre | PermaLink
Posted by: STAFF
The back of the TV houses all of the connections and there is quite a decent sized area that is dedicated to hold the three USB ports, three HDMI ports, optical audio out, component video, LAN and tuner. All of these add up to give you a nice selection of connection options. I did notice one thing missing on this TV however; a VGA connection. . ."

In a little break away from computer hardware, we`re moving to the lounge today to look at the Roku LT: a streamingmedia player for your TV. Logitech TV Cam HD review: couch Skyping
     Thu, Nov 15 2012 | 12:03P | Home Theatre | PermaLink
Posted by: STAFF
Skype is an extremely useful and indeed cost saving application, but a disadvantage of this particular method of communication is its requirement to sit at a computer, which does get old after a while. Logitech recently introduced its TV Cam HD, which allows you to video call while just sitting on your couch. While there are television sets with built-in webcam and Skype app, the TV Cam HD has been designed to work with any set with an HDMI port.

[Tech ARP] Satellite TV Going Bonkers? Blame Your DECT Phone! Rev. 2.0
     Thu, Nov 15 2012 | 8:12A | Home Theatre | PermaLink
Posted by: STAFF
If you are having problems watching certain channels on your satellite TV, don`t blame your service provider just yet. It is very possible that the culprit is actually the DECT (Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications) phone you recently installed. This is actually an old problem, but one that not many people realize until they install a DECT phone, or subscribe to a satellite TV service, or both. In this article, we are going to explain to you why DECT phones interfere with satellite TV services, how to determine if they are the cause, and how to fix the problem. If you find this guide useful, be sure to share it with your family and friends so they won`t get frustated at their satellite TV provider for the wrong reason. We all have plenty of other reasons to complain to them about anyway!"

Arctic MC101 review: HTPC in media player format
     Wed, Nov 07 2012 | 9:01A | Home Theatre | PermaLink
Posted by: STAFF
Watching digital content in your living room, it remains a challenge sometimes. Of course there are plenty of media players, settop boxes, smart TVs, intelligent Blu-ray players and the old favourite, the HTPC. The latter is the most flexible, but until now also the largest in size, which can be a drawback in the living room. Arctic has attempted to solve that problem, by creating an HTPC that is the size of a media player.

First Look - Ceton Echo Windows Media Extender @MissingRemote
     Sun, Nov 04 2012 | 7:40P | Home Theatre | PermaLink
Posted by: STAFF
The XBOX 360 has ruled the Windows Media Center (WMC) extender market since it killed off third-party completion with the release of Windows Vista, but for many the brutish gaming consoles size, appetite for electricity, and unpleasant noise levels made it unwelcome in the A/V stack. With a lithe chassis, miserly power consumption, and a modern system-on-a-chip (SOC) offering the potential for proper HD file support the Ceton Echo could be just the thing to breathe fresh life into Microsofts aging platform. Our sample just arrived so it has not been run through the wringer yet, but since the hardware is set and pre-orders starting it is worth taking a look to getting a basic understanding of what the Echo has to offer. Check back later for our full review when the software is finalized. *"
