SUNNYVALE, CA--JANUARY 10, 2000--AMD today announced that Gateway has chosen the AMD Athlon™ processor to power its Gateway™ Select PC Series. Systems are now available by calling 1-800-GATEWAY, visiting a Gateway Country® store, or online at www.gateway.com.

"The AMD Athlon processor's superior technology brings an exceptional computing experience that customers have come to expect from Gateway products," said Rob Herb, senior vice president of Sales and Marketing for AMD. "AMD is extremely pleased a world-class PC manufacturer like Gateway has adopted the AMD Athlon processor in its product portfolio."

"Gateway's decision to use the AMD Athlon in its Select PC series enhances AMD's credibility and demonstrates that the AMD Athlon is gaining acceptance at the high end of the desktop computer market. AMD's win at Gateway reinforces the position of the AMD Athlon processor as a legitimate challenger in the performance segment," noted Nathan Brookwood, principal analyst at Insight 64.

About the AMD Athlon™ Processor
The AMD Athlon processor is an x86-compatible, seventh-generation design featuring a superpipelined, nine-issue superscalar microarchitecture optimized for high clock frequency; the industry's first fully pipelined, superscalar floating point unit for x86 platforms; high-performance cache technology, including 128KB of on-chip level (L1) cache and a programmable, high-performance backside L2 cache interface; enhanced 3DNow!™ technology with 24 additional instructions designed to improve integer math calculations, data movement for Internet streaming, and DSP communications; and the AMD Athlon system bus - a 200MHz system interface based on the Alpha™ EV6 bus protocol with support for scalable multiprocessing.

All new AMD Athlon processors are now manufactured on AMD's aluminum 0.18-micron process technology in Fab 25 in Austin, Texas.
