AMD Expands Its Validated Server Program to Include
Supermicro, Tyan and Uniwide
AMD (NYSE: AMD) today welcomed three new participants - Supermicro Computer,
Inc., Tyan Computer Corporation and Uniwide Technologies, Inc. - to its
Validated Server Program (VSP), broadening the program's reach in North America
and Europe and into new geographical regions. AMD's VSP is designed to connect
solution providers with VSP participants to obtain qualified, reliable, stable
and well-supported server solutions based on single- and Dual-Core AMD
Opteron(TM) processors with the industry's best performance-per-watt. The three
new participants are expected to introduce new platforms to be sold under the
VSP banner later this quarter in North America, Europe, Asia and Latin America.
"The scope and breadth of reliable, stable server solutions validated by AMD
for the channel is growing substantially, giving solution providers, system
integrators and value-added resellers and their customers more choices and quick
access to AMD64 technology," said Pat Moorhead, vice president, Global Channel
Marketing, Microprocessor Solutions Sector, AMD. "Adding these three stellar
companies further strengthens our Validated Server Program, which is designed to
help our solution provider customers develop and offer top-quality server
solutions to meet the needs and demands of end-users. Each of these
manufacturers has met rigorous standards of performance and service in order to
participate."
The VSP program was launched in June 2003, connecting solution providers with
servers from Newisys, a wholly owned subsidiary of Sanmina-SCI. Newisys is an
original design manufacturer providing server and storage systems for leading
original equipment manufacturers and system builders.
VSP systems are thoroughly tested for quality, compatibility, longevity and
stability and are backed by global manufacturers who provide world-class service
and support.
Joining the program are Supermicro Computer, a market leader in x86 server
and motherboard solutions for the distribution channel; Tyan Computer
Corporation, a well-renowned designer and manufacturer of advanced x86 and
x86-64 platform and system technology for OEMs, VARs and system builders
worldwide; and Uniwide Technologies, a leader in AMD Opteron processor-based
server and workstation bare-bones platforms.
"AMD's dual-core technology represents a paradigm shift for speed and power
in compute-intensive applications," said Dr. T. Symon Chang, CEO of Tyan
Computer Corporation. "Working closely with AMD to deliver a full range of
validated system and platform products based on AMD's latest processor
technology is a testament to Tyan's commitment to meeting or exceeding our
customers' expectations."
"Our system builder and OEM customers around the world are winning
opportunities with UniServer(TM), featuring one of the industry's highest memory
capacities (8 DIMM sockets per CPU) for two-way and four-way servers," said
Daniel Kim, president and CEO, Uniwide Technologies, Inc. "By joining AMD's
Validated Server Program, we are even better positioned to address their
computing demands for AMD Opteron processor-based server products featuring the
industry's best performance per watt."
"Supermicro continues to broaden its portfolio of server solutions based on
single- and Dual-Core AMD Opteron processors, and we are pleased to step up to
the critical benchmarks of AMD's Validated Server Program," said Alex Hsu,
senior vice president, Supermicro Computer, Inc. "Supermicro's advanced AMD64
dual-core solutions are designed with uncompromising quality control to deliver
outstanding performance and reliability to help end users realize the full
potential of their business-critical applications."
Product availability information will be communicated when the specific new
platforms are announced beginning later this quarter. More information on the
Validated Server Program may be found at www.amd.com/vsp.
About the AMD Opteron(TM) Processor
More than 90 of the top 100 of the Forbes Global 2000 companies or their
subsidiaries, representing the world's most competitive industries, now rely on
AMD Opteron(TM) processor-based systems. The AMD64 processor platform with
Direct Connect Architecture is the gold standard for 64-bit computing, evolving
industry standards to deliver break-through performance by reducing bottlenecks
inherent in traditional front-side bus architectures and enabling a more
efficient approach to virtualization. Single- and Dual-Core AMD Opteron
processors deliver the highest performance and performance-per-watt in the
market because they were designed from the ground up for multi-core computing.
