Date: Monday October 15, 2001
Category: CPU / Processors
Manufacturer Link: Boxx Technologies
New 3DBOXX and RenderBOXX R1 Series of High Performance Workstations and Rendering Systems Target Digital Artists, Game Developers and Animators

AUSTIN, TX - October 15, 2001 - BOXX Technologies, a leading provider of award-winning digital content creation systems for the entertainment and digital film industries, today announced the 3DBOXX R1 series of high-performance workstations and the RenderBOXX R1 series of rendering systems now include the new AMD Athlon(tm) MP processor with QuantiSpeed(tm) architecture and Smart MP technology.

The new AMD Athlon MP processor is designed to provide the optimal performance needed for computation-intensive applications while providing IT managers with the highest standard in platform stability and reliability.

Designed for Microsoft Windows 2000, Windows NT or Linux, the 3DBOXX R1 and RenderBOXX R1 systems are available in single and dual processor configurations and are optimized for creating and rendering 3D content and animation using popular software programs such as Maya, 3D Studio MAX, Softimage 3D, LightWave 3D, and Houdini.

"We're pleased that BOXX Technologies is offering our high performance AMD Athlon(tm) MP processor 1800+ in systems designed to deliver the productivity that users of compute-intensive applications need and appreciate," said Ben Williams, director of Server and Workstation Product Marketing at AMD.

"Producers and digital animators tend to operate at full capacity and they expect their systems to do the same," says Rick Krause, president and CEO of BOXX Technologies. "Our new 3DBOXX and RenderBOXX R1 systems with the new AMD Athlon MP processor 1800+ offer the performance these creative souls need to effectively streamline workflow and deliver projects on time and within budget."

About 3DBOXX
Available in dual processor configurations running Microsoft Windows 2000, Windows NT or Linux, the 3DBOXX R1 series offers powerful, compact, and affordable systems for digital content creation. The series features the newest AMD Athlon MP processors and is optimized for leading 3D and animation software programs such as Maya, 3D Studio MAX, Softimage 3D, LightWave 3D, and Houdini.

About RenderBOXX
Available in a 1U (1.75") configuration, the RenderBOXX R1 series is designed to streamline the rendering process for HD, digital film, video, game development, 3D design and animation with unparalleled processing power over conventional rendering options. BOXX's Juggler render management software takes advantage of RenderBOXX's multi-processor configuration to dramatically reduce rendering times and lower production costs.

About the AMD Athlon MP Processor with QuantiSpeed Architecture and Smart MP Technology The AMD Athlon MP processor is a seventh-generation x86 processor designed for high-performance multiprocessing servers and workstations.

A key advantage of AMD's multiprocessing platform is Smart MP technology, which greatly enhances overall platform performance by increasing data movement between the two CPUs, chipset and memory system. Smart MP technology features dual point-to-point, high-speed 266MHz system buses with Error Correcting Code (ECC) support designed to provide up to 2.1GB per second per CPU of bus bandwidth in a dual-processor system. Smart MP technology also has an optimized Modified Owner Exclusive Shared Invalid (MOESI) cache coherency protocol that manages data and memory traffic in a multiprocessing environment.

The AMD Athlon MP processor features the patented QuantiSpeed(tm) architecture, which includes a high performance full-speed cache with hardware data pre-fetch, a fully pipelined superscalar floating point engine, and an exclusive L2 Translation Look-aside Buffer (TLB). The processor also incorporates 3DNow!* Professional technology, which has 52 new instructions that extend AMD's 3DNow!(tm) technology, enabling smoother, richer and more lifelike images, more precise digital audio and an enriched Internet experience. The AMD Athlon MP processor is compatible with AMD's stable Socket A infrastructure, and supports DDR memory technology.
