Palit 8800GT Super+ 1GB||
The nVidia GeForce 8800GT GPU offers gamers exceptional
performance for a relatively low price point. At the moment there are two G92 based products from nVIDIA, the GeForce 8800GT and
the Geforce 8800GTS. Most of the attention has been focused on the 8800GT simply
because it's slightly cheaper, and many GeForce 8800GT videocards have no
problem overclocking to 8800GTS speeds! Finding an nVIDIA GeForce 8800GT videocard on
the market isn't too hard, but expect them to get snapped up!
Palit have taken a slightly different approach with this
GeForce 8800GT-class videocard. Rather than pre-overclock the GPU and memory,
it's added an extra 512MB of onboard videocard memory, bumping the total to 1GB
GDDR3. The Palit 8800GT Super+ 1GB ships with its GPU running at 600
MHz and memory clocked at 900 MHz. The shader runs at the stock 1500MHz speed. For the gamers looking
for a little DirectX10 action in Windows Vista, the Palit 8800GT Super+ 1GB supports
SM4.0, 16x antialiasing, 128-bit HDR, nVidia quantum effects physics processing, PureVideo HD, OpenGL
2 and all the other eye candy you'd expect.
is a relatively new company to the retail world of videocards, and as the
new kid on the block Palit are doing a lot to get noticed. PCSTATS has
already tested a pre-overclocked
Geforce 9600GT from Palit, and in this review we'll be discovering the
impact extra memory has on the Geforce 8800GT GPU.
As with all Geforce 8800GT's, the maximum resolution through each of the two dualink DVI outputs is 2560x1600
pixels. Connecting up an SD or HDTV is easy as
there are a couple options; hook up a Component Output/composite cable, or
use the supplied DVI-to-HDMI adaptor. The Palit 8800GT Super+ 1GB
videocard requires one 6-pin 12V
auxiliary power connector, supports nVidia SLI, PCI Express 2.0 and is HDCP compliant.

The Palit 8800GT Super+ 1GB videocard comes with
1024MB of onboard memory and is priced at $290 CDN ($290 USD, £150 GBP). That's
about the middle of the pack for GeForce 8800GT videocards, and well below the price point
of 8800GTS 512MB models. The videocard uses a dual slot extruded blue
aluminum heatsink, so unfortunately it's not going to
be as suitable within a small form factor PC.
top right hand corner of the Palit 8800GT Super+ 1GB is a six pin
PCI Express x16 power connector. Don't forget to plug that in before powering on the system
or you'll make it angry. At the top left hand corner of the videocard
you'll see the SLI bridge connector; the card can be run with one other GeForce 8800GT
videocard in SLI mode.
There is a digital 2-pin audio header at the corner
of the Palit 8800GT Super+ 1GB by the nVidia SLI connector too. This
is used to bring an audio signal into the Palit 9600GT so it can output audio
over the HDMI cable. Virtually every motherboard has an audio header, so it's
a convenient route.
nVidia G82 Geforce
The Palit Geforce 8800GT Super+
videocard is powered by the nVIDIA GeForce 8800GT core. Code named 'G92', this
graphics processor is a big slab of silicon; manufactured by TSMC on the
65nm process it contains 754 million transistors. Nvidia packs the G92 core with some tweaks
that other GPUs in the Geforce 8800-series have lacked. The Geforce 8800GT
integrates a video processing engine (which was previously a separate chip with
G80 versions of the GF 8800GTX/GTSs) into the core, and increases the number of
texture address units. The default clock speeds are 600MHz
GPU, 1800MHz memory and 1500MHz shader.
The nVidia G92 core has 112 stream processors
available to it (128SPs for the 8800GTX, 96 for the 8800GTS 640/320MB model, 64
for the 9600GT) which means clock for clock the G92 is technically more powerful
than the GeForce 8800GTS.
The GeForce 8800GT's 1024MB of GDDR3
memory is clocked at 1800 MHz, which is faster than the 8800GTX that came before
it. To ensure that the G92 stays in its place, behind the 8800GTX, nVIDIA
purposefully equips the new darling with a small 256-bit data bus. The GeForce
8800GTX uses a 384 bit bus (50% wider) and the 8800GTS 320/640MB a 320 bit data
bus. That should keep the GeForce 8800GT performance in check.
For those who like theoretical numbers,
the nvidia GeForce 8800GT GPU boasts a texture fill rate of 33.6 billion per
second and a bandwidth of 57.6 GB/s. The GeForce 8800GTX comes in at 36.8
billion per second for texture fill rate, 86.4 GB/s in bandwidth. The GeForce
8800GTS weighs in with a 24 billion per second texture fill rate and 64 GB/s
Now, let's find out how far this Palit's Geforce
8800GT Super+ videocard can overclock!
