MSI 648 MAX-F Motherboard Review
MSI 648 MAX-F Motherboard Review - PCSTATS
I was really excited about sitting down and testing this SiS 648 based motherboard. From what I've read the SiS 648 chipset is supposed to be a full-blown i850E/RDRAM killer.

Benchmarks: Winbench, Sandra 2002

Winbench 99 V1.2 Source: e-Testinglabs.com

WinBench 99 is a subsystem-level benchmark that measures the performance of a PC's graphics, disk, and video subsystems in a Windows environment. WinBench 99's tests can run on Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT, Windows 2000, and Windows Me systems.

WinBench 99 v1.2 Benchmark Results
MSI 648 MAX Score Ranking
1. Business Disk - 133 MHz 6340
1a. Business Disk - 143 MHz 6140
2. High-End Disk - 133 MHz 18200
2a. High-End Disk - 143 MHz 17800
3. Business Graphics - 133 MHz 747
3a. Business Graphics - 143 MHz 822
4. High-End Graphics - 133 MHz 1110
4a. High-End Graphics - 143 MHz 1230

It's not surprising that hard drive scores went down when overclocked, it's common knowledge that the IDE subsystem doesn't like to be overclocked. The AGP portion does get a healthy boost from the overclock.

Sandra is designed to test the theoretical power of a complete system and individual components. The numbers taken though are again, purely theoretical and may not represent real world performance.

I'm not a big fan of SiSoft Sandra myself but it seems that motherboard review would be complete without them. I'm particularly impressed by the memory bandwidth. Not bad at all!
