Benchmarks: 3DMark03, Sandra 2004

Futuremark 3DMark03 (v.340) Source: FutureMark

This new accurate diagnostic tool, designed for DirectX9.0, provides you with all the information you need to make informed hardware assessments. Havok Total real-time physics library from Havok - these routines are used to accurately model the movements of objects due to forces, etc. FMOD sound library from Firelight Technologies - these are used for the various sound effects and routines used in the tests. Graphics adapter analysis software from Powerstrip of Entech Taiwan - this is used to correctly determine the speeds of the graphics processing and video memory chips, plus supply additional hardware information. Higher 3DMark03 scores denote better performance.

3DMark03 Benchmark Results
Video Card 3DMarks Ranking
Athlon64 3200+ 6196
Athlon64 3400+ 6260
Athlon64 FX-51 6310
Pentium4 3.2GHz Extreme Edition 6657
Pentium4 3.2GHz Northwood 6516
Pentium4 3.2GHz Prescott 6608

Futuremark's synthetic graphics test reflects the same results as PCMark04; mainly, Prescott beats out Northwood by a very narrow margin, and all of the Pentium 4 processors outrun AMD's lineup. The situation changes in the raw processor benchmark, however.

Athlon64 FX-51 986
Pentium4 3.2GHz Extreme Edition 909
Pentium4 3.2GHz Northwood 786
Pentium4 3.2GHz Prescott 825

AMD's Athlon 64 FX-51 takes a first-place finish, followed by the Athlon 64 3400+. Intel's 3.2GHz Pentium 4 Extreme Edition takes third, the Athlon 64 3200+ clenches fourth, and the Prescott comes in fifth.

Sandra is designed to test the theoretical power of a complete system and individual components. The numbers taken though are again, purely theoretical and may not represent real world performance. Higher numbers represent better performance.

Maybe it's because SiSoft Sandra 2004 wasn't compiled explicitly with Prescott in mind, but SiSoftware's latest synthetic benchmark doesn't paint the new core in a good light at all. First, Northwood beats it in the arithmetic tests by about 12 percent. It goes on to lose the multimedia test as well, losing to both the Northwood and Gallatin cores. AMD's Athlon 64 has never done well in the Sandra processor tests, a trend that continues here, but the Athlon 64 FX's integrated memory controller really shines, nearly tipping the 6GB per second mark.
