Overclocking and Benchmarks

The HSI Bridge chip on the GV-NX57128D video card.

Overclocking:

Starting with the core overclock, it was increased from the default 425 MHz to 443 MHz. Things quickly stopped after that, as the GV-NX57128D would begin to pause when running benchmarks at speeds higher than 444MHz.

The 3.6ns Samsung memory is clocked at 500 MHz on the GV-NX57128D, which means Gigabyte under clocks the memory from its theoretical maximum speed of 555 MHz. To find the upper limits of this memory, the memory frequency was increased from that mark to well past 560 MHz... At 573 MHz the GV-NX57128D hit a wall, and anything higher would just create visible artifacts. Unlike nVIDIA's previous crop of AGP videocards we've tested, the core and memory played quite nicely together when overclocked. For the following benchmarks, we were able to run both memory and GPU at their maximum speeds through each of the benchmarks.

By combining DirectX8 support with completely new graphics, it continues to provide good overall system benchmarks. 3DMark2001SE has been created in cooperation with the major 3D accelerator and processor manufacturers to provide a reliable set of diagnostic tools. The suite demonstrates 3D gaming performance by using real-world gaming technology to test a system's true performance abilities. Tests include: DirectX8 Vertex Shaders, Pixel Shaders and Point Sprites, DOT3 and Environment Mapped Bump Mapping, support for Full Scene Anti-aliasing and Texture Compression and two game tests using Ipion real-time physics.

Higher numbers denote better performance.

Here in 3DMark2001 we find that the Gigabyte and MSI GeForcePCX 5750 PCI-E cards perform close to each other. They're still quite a ways behind a stock AGP GeForceFX 5700 Ultra though.
