Benchmarks: 3DMark2001, X2: The Threat

3DMark2001SE Source: FutureMark

By combining DirectX8 support with completely new graphics, 3DMark 2001 continues to provide good overall system benchmarks. 3DMark2001SE has been created in cooperation with the major 3D accelerator and processor manufacturers to provide a reliable set of diagnostic tools. The suite demonstrates 3D gaming performance by using real-world gaming technology to test a system's true performance abilities. Tests include: DirectX8 Vertex Shaders, Pixel Shaders and Point Sprites, DOT3 and Environment Mapped Bump Mapping, support for Full Scene Anti-aliasing and Texture Compression and two game tests using Ipion real-time physics.

Higher numbers denote better performance.

3DMark2001SE:
Memory Points Ranking
2x 512MB PQI Turbo PQI25400-1GDB (200/533) 23156
2x 512MB Crucial Ballistix PC2-5400 (200/533) 23244
2x 512MB Mushkin PC2-4200 (200/533) 23186
2x 512MB Mushkin PC2-4200 (231/614) 23916

In 3DMark2001SE, the Mushkin PC2-4200 memory scores quite nicely both at stock and overclocked speeds.

X2: The Threat Source: Egosoft

A completely rewritten 3D engine based on DirectX8 encompasses many visual effects such as volumetric Nebulae (gas clouds) that have a real impact in the game (you can hide in them) and many new engine, shield, weapon and explosion effects. Objects cast real dynamic 3D shadows! Dynamic DP3 bump mapping allows a previously unseen level of detail.

X2 The Threat
640x480 FPS Ranking
2x 512MB PQI Turbo PQI25400-1GDB (200/533) 170.538
2x 512MB Crucial Ballistix PC2-5400 (200/533) 172.551
2x 512MB Mushkin PC2-4200 (200/533) 171.365
2x 512MB Mushkin PC2-4200 (231/614) 176.494

In X2: The Threat, it seems like overclocking the memory does not improve performance very much; the difference is only about 5 FPS. Still, if you're a gamer it's nice to see the power of these new systems! The Mushkin memory again posted a stock score between the PQI and the Crucial offerings.
