Benchmarks: PCMark04, 3DMark2001

PCMark04 Source: FutureMark

The latest version of the popular PCMark series, PCMark04 is an application-based benchmark and a premium tool for measuring overall PC performance. It uses portions of real applications instead of including whole applications or using specifically created code. This allows PCMark04 to maintain a smaller installation size while still giving accurate results.

PCMark04:
Overall Points Ranking
Gigabyte GA-8ANXP-D (925X 200/400) 5422
MSI 915P Neo2 Platinum (915P 200/400) 5204
DFI LANParty 875P-T (i875P 200/400) 5112
ASRock 775V88 (PT880 200/400) 5114
CPU Points Ranking
Gigabyte GA-8ANXP-D (925X 200/400) 5284
MSI 915P Neo2 Platinum (915P 200/400) 5034
DFI LANParty 875P-T (i875P 200/400) 4978
ASRock 775V88 (PT880 200/400) 4929
Memory Points Ranking
Gigabyte GA-8ANXP-D (925X 200/400) 5712
MSI 915P Neo2 Platinum (915P 200/400) 5370
DFI LANParty 875P-T (i875P 200/400) 5076
ASRock 775V88 (PT880 200/400) 5023

The ASRock 775V88 brings up the rear here but not by much. You can see that memory performance is the only area that the older chipsets lose out on to Intel's newest 915 and 925X solutions. We'll see if this affects gaming performance next.

3DMark2001 Source: FutureMark

By combining DirectX8 support with completely new graphics, 3DMark 2001 SE continues to provide a good overall system benchmark. 3DMark2001 SE was created in co-operation with the major 3D accelerator and processor manufacturers to provide a reliable set of diagnostic tools. The suite demonstrates 3D gaming performance by using real-world gaming technology to test a system's true abilities. Tests include: DirectX8 Vertex Shaders, Pixel Shaders and Point Sprites, DOT3 and Environment Mapped Bump Mapping, support for Full Scene Anti-aliasing and Texture Compression and two game tests using Ipion real-time physics. Higher 3DMark scores denote better performance.

3DMark2001 Benchmark Results
Motherboards Points Ranking
Gigabyte GA-8ANXP-D (925X 200/400) 23249
MSI 915P Neo2 Platinum (915P 200/400) 21984
DFI LANParty 875P-T (i875P 200/400) 22441
ASRock 775V88 (PT880 200/400) 21810

Entry-level certainly doesn't mean lousy gaming performance in this case. Equipped with the same Radeon X800 video card, the ASRock 775V88 keeps up well. The lower memory performance of the board accounts for the slightly lower scores.
